What Xuehao is for
Learning to read Chinese means learning characters, and there are a lot of them. The HSK syllabus turns that into an order you can follow: 300 characters at a time, each level building on the last. Xuehao gives every level a set of tools that work together, so you can recognise a character, say it, write it and use it in words.

Character and vocabulary flashcards
The character flashcards cover the 3,000 characters of HSK 3.0 and the HSK 2.0 levels, and the vocabulary flashcards cover every word in both syllabuses. Each deck has five modes (Study, Quiz, Type, Match and Review) and three directions: characters to meaning, characters to pinyin, and meaning to characters.
Stroke order
The stroke order section animates every HSK character stroke by stroke and includes a tracing pad that checks the order and direction of each stroke you draw.
Word lists and printables
Every level has a complete word list with pinyin and meanings, a printable character chart and 田字格 practice sheets.
Where the data comes from
- HSK 3.0 character list: the official list from the 2021 standard, as published by the hsk30 project (MIT licence).
- Word lists, pinyin and meanings: the complete-hsk-vocabulary project (MIT), with definitions from CC-CEDICT (CC BY-SA 4.0).
- Stroke order and character definitions: Make Me a Hanzi, whose stroke data is derived from Arphic fonts under the Arphic Public License and whose dictionary is under the LGPL.
